BCFM POLICY-- Political groups and candidates for office

The policy of the Boulder County Farmers’ Markets is to allow political groups, petitioners, voter registration, and people distributing fliers to be present at the Market. We shall not interfere with the lawful distribution of political information or the collection of signatures for registered petitions, or voter registration drives as long as it is done in a manner that does not obstruct customers or other normal business activity. You may use the walkways at the market but must keep moving in order to keep pedestrian traffic moving.  Most customers avoid people with clipboards and handing out pamphlets so it will hurt vendor’s sales if you stand in front of a vendor’s booth.  No sales or exchange of items for donations of any kind is allowed.  As long as you move often so that you could not interfere with any vendors business you are welcome to be at our market. No hawking or calling out to customers is allowed for any participants at the Market (including farmers). Participants are expected to be respectful and not aggressive with interaction with customers. You will be asked to leave if you are obstructing the path of customers, calling out to customers, being aggressive or not moving.

We shall not allow groups to set up tables, chairs, signs or use any Market licensed space or equipment unless the organization prearranges it with us as a participating nonprofit organization leasing that space with us, paying the fee, and signing the community group contract.

We are glad to have organizations here at the Market engaging customers but please remember that the purpose of the BCFM is to support local agriculture. Many small, local family farms livelihoods are dependent on their success at this Market and unfortunately most of the complaints we receive are from customers complaining about aggressive petitioners and voter registration participants.

If you have any questions, please come to the information booth located in the middle of the Market. We enjoy having a community atmosphere at our markets and know that is why you wish to join us here.

Boulder County Farmers’ Markets is an independent non-profit owned by the farmers that sell at the market.  BCFM leases the street from the City of Boulder.  We are not affiliated with the City of Boulder.
