Satisfying the localvore after the Farmers' Market season ends.
By Elisabeth Worthing, Volunter to BCFM
I've done more than ever this year to hang onto the growing season. New feats included freezing over 60 lbs of tomatoes from Honey Acre, freezing basil from Steven's Farm, a pantry stocked full with, among other things, beans from Ginger Cat Farms and thanks to the folks at Miller Farm my root cellar (or rather a corner of my basement) is full of potatoes and winter squashes. You can also find stone ground 100% whole wheat flour from Butte Mill and pureed pumpkin in any remaining corner of my freezer. If there was enough room I'd probably order up myself an elk half from High Wire Ranch.
Still not satisfied I set out to find out where we can all get produce over the next few months. I went stand to stand in both the Longmont and Boulder Markets and I found that most growers will be at the winter markets scheduled for Saturday, November 22 (9am-3pm) at the Boulder Outlook Hotel and Saturday, December 13 (9am-4pm) at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont. Both are great opportunities to support and showcase local growers at your Holiday celebrations. I also found that there's still plenty of time to continue to stock up and I even found a few places where we can get greens all winter. Many of the growers have stands that will remain open through November and even December in some cases.

SOURCES FOR MORE INFORMATION
I was amazed after visiting both markets how many vendors are members of Boulder County Farmers' Markets. I couldn't possibly list all the contact information here. If there is a vendor at the markets you would like to contact there are three really good sources.
Localharvest.org has a way to track down farms in any area in the country by zip code it is also a great resource for finding a CSA farm you might want to work with.
The Boulder County Going Local team (now Transition Boulder County) has a local resource guide on line at eatlocalguide.com they have the list of food types on the right you can click and drill down to find.
And of course the Boulder County Farmers' Market can give you contact information on any of their vendors, but their policy requires you ask for the information by name of the farm or farmer. 303-910-2236
